We stopped here on the way home from the Keys. So glad we did. I ordered the kids size fish basket. It wasn't that small for kids but just enough for a smaller appetite. The grouper tasted very fresh. Probably the best grouper I've had in a while. It was lightly battered and came with fries. I ate every last bite. Hubby is not a fish fan an ordered a burger. He said it was ok. Someone ordered a shrimp basket and it too looked delicious. They have a homemade ice cream stand but unfortunately it was closed. Will definitely return!!

I was really looking forward to try stone crabs and it`s quite difficult to find them at a low price. I have to say, this is the place to eat inexpensive and quite good stone crabs... that said, just come here if you don´t mind to eat literally surrounded by flies. I am not very picky person, but I couldn`t really enjoy my food having to be always protecting it (and my face, arms, etc) from flies!!! Other than stone crabs I chose a 3 items basket with alligator, which was not good (it tasted sour), soft-shell blue crab which was amazingly delicious but just one... and shrimps, just okay, and too many french fries compared to a unite scarce amount of seafood. Conch fritters were good. Overall, just a lot of cheap fried stuff... I recommend you to go there for the stone crabs, only.

I only gave this one three stars because there is nothing on the menu that's healthy. It's pretty much fried everything, which I wasn't complaining about when eating it! What I like most about this place is the atmosphere. It's all outdoor eating right on the water. The key lime pie is really good! It was frozen when I got it (ugh) but once it warmed up, so good.

This place looked cute and quirky, directly on the water so we stopped for some lunch. You order at the counter inside and they call your number when it's ready for pick up. You can eat at the picnic tables on the dock or at the bar if it's open. We had the smoked fish dip, which was pretty darn good. The stone crab claws, which were not so good. Not sure why but they weren't sweet tasting nor did they seem fresh. He had the fried basket with frog legs, fries, and shrimp I believe. To me, the fries were the best part. The rest of it was just too battered and fried too much. Prices were fair, Id return if I was in the neighborhood but would stick to just the basics.

The perfect place to eat after a hot day on an airboat! City seafood stood out from other establishments the minute I saw a picture of stone crabs. The exterior looks like a redneck barn, but was actually pleasant. You order your food at the counter, and pick it up at the window. We got the stone crabs (delish!!), blackened scallops appetizer (the tiniest in the world), fried fish platters and blackened fish platters. The blackened fish and scallops were a bit spicy, but flavorful. I didn't really care for the fried fish. The setting in general was nice and very relaxing. Cons: they had no more key lime pie by the time we got here. Also, there are no raw oysters! ;(

the fried food were little and greasy. The place is very dirty too. don't know why it's expensive.

Stone crab season! Our Everglades airboat guide recommended and we went over to check it out. Conch fritters and 1-1/2 pound of stone crab claws and we had to take a couple of claws back to the hotel for later. Bare bones seafood market with old picnic tables, plastic cutlery, paper towels instead of napkins, yet it was one of the best meals we had on vacations!

  • Midys R.

The locale is charming and you get such a nice view. The lady at the counter was very kind and friendly. The selection was a bit limited, but the food was delicious. We had the shrimp basket and it had a lot of shrimp. It was great. The buffalo shrimp were also good. We also had blackened scallops, those were ok. It was inexpensive. I recommend it.

....I ask what the fresh fish was TO DAY and the counter girl said "we only have Grouper for our fish dishes"......When I got my order the fish was a thin fillet. Not at all the look of a piece of Grouper. I went back into the ordering area where I look into the glass refrigerated cabinet that displayed the seafood that they use. I pointed to the only fish in the cabinet. All the pieces of fish were uniformed and I asked " is this grouper?" And she answered YES...Guess WHAT IT WAS TILAPIA....THEY ARE OUT RIGHT LIARS CHEATS AND THIEVES. Anyone that knows grouper cant be fooled by TILAPIA. I will never be back.

Yummy! This is the spot to go in everglades city! They sell out of the best stuff early in the day so plan on an early lunch. It's a casual place without table service but the food is fresh, good and well priced. Don't miss out on the Gator!

Pretty good fish stand type restaurant with picnic tables on the deck overlooking a pretty bay(only downside to this is the nose from the evergalde tour boats). The servers were very nice and knowlegable about the catch. The fish was fresh and very good. I have fried oysters which were awersome (recommened) and a fried grouper. Clientel when I was there was mostly tourists but the good food had me not notice too much. Not many restaurants left in South Florida like this.

Review aside, this whole city was a cool little experience, City Seafood not excluded. We had an airboat tour that was somehow delayed next door, so we figured we'd at least try to eat beforehand. City Seafood was right there and had fairly good Yelp reviews so we walked on over. The place was packed on a Monday afternoon which was fairly surprising. There were people buying $200 of seafood so it clearly was fresh (you could also see it--it looked fresh too). You place your order in a little room and then wait outside for your number to be called. I got a shrimp basket which came with fries. It took me a few minutes (too late) to realize the shrimp were fried. I hate the thought of taking a nice, fresh shrimp and frying it. I should have gotten it blackened but figured that I'd try it as is. It took about half an hour for the food to come out--told you they were busy. The shrimp were actually pretty good. I just wish they were not fried, but oh well. Everyone else thought their food was average to above average. I take the fourth star off here because it was slow and some tables were still dirty. I wouldn't have a problem eating there again, though.

  • Mary S.

Nothing fancy here....just delicious seafood and friendly service, nice "old Florida" feel. Eat inside or out and watch the airboats coming in.

  • Ana R.

I'm a fan because the fried seafood was good and because I love the picnic tables you can sit at with the water like right there. A had the FRIED GATOR BASKET. These were good, not great - a little tough but seasoned nicely. I had the 3 SEAFOOD FRIED BASKET with fried oysters, fried shrimp and fried soft shell crab with french fries. Excellent! but Frank had the best which was the FRIED CALAMARI BASKET. These were amazing. Lots of tentacles which I LOVE. Less rings. So if you like just rings when ordering calamari, this isn't the place for you. I really enjoyed this place and I look forward to going back. Enjoy!

We got here just in time to have something to eat since everything around the area closes early and are almost empty on a Sunday, we tried for the first time alligator nuggets and they were ok, the breading was nice but not a big fan overall of the texture. The fish was really fresh and the outdoor seating area is lovely. A very nice spot to rest and grab a bite when around the Everglades!

My husband loved the frog legs. He went back for a second order. My gator basket was good but they were a little soggy. But overall the food and atmosphere was great.

My buddy and I stopped here after fishing All morning and the food was great. I had the blue crab sandwich with potato salad and a Bud light. The yum yum sauce is a must have!

    (5)
  • Dave G.

Very good food, great atmosphere and view. Stopped in for lunch on a very hot day. Ordered the gator and fish basket. The gator was well cooked and not chewy as in some resturaunts, very fresh tasting. The fish was obviously very fresh, light and flaky with an excellent flavor. We sat outside under cover by the docked boats and watched the air boats circulate in and out. Light country music playing and overall a very good experience. Would highly recommend for a casual dining experience. Pricing is not cheap but not over priced per se for the quality and portions.

  • Arthur S.

I had heard good things about this place by word of mouth so my experience was extremely disappointing. I was excited to find they had colossal sized stone crab so I bought two pounds (about $75) to take home for dinner. They very nicely packaged it in a bag of ice. When I got home I put it in the refrigerator for a few hours till dinner. Then I dug in. It all tasted of ammonia, a sure sign of overripe seafood. In fact the refrigerator smelled bad for days afterwords. I'm lucky I did not get sick.

  • Christy C.

Great food & amazing setting. Had the shrimp basket - I highly recommend trying the yum yum sauce and gator piss hot sauce. A perfect spot to fuel up after an airboat ride!

  • Jay W.

Stone crabs are great but the deep fried grouper plate is even better, call before coming if you want stone crabs as they run out during high season.

Looking for fancy in Everglades City? Look elsewhere - but looking for a place to get a wide variety of fried seafood, this is your place. We had just gone hiking in the Fakahatchee Strand, which is up US 29 from Everglades City. We make it a tradition to head down south after the hike and enjoy some fresh seafood. Find a parking spot where you can - its a dirt lot with some grassy area. Walk up to the menu written on white boards or on paper menus and order in a small booth (where you can also get some fresh seafood to go). The menu offers a wide variety of fried (though you can order broiled and blackened if you ask) animals including frogs, gator, fish, crab, clams, conch and more. Also there is a cooler full of beer you might want to peak into (as a beer snob, I shut it). Whatever fried animal you want comes in three forms - appetizer, sandwich, or basket. trying to get a variety, I went with the 2 choice basket of soft shell crab and gator. I love gator, and it was excellent here. The soft shell crab was a bit salty. These came over fries, and was a great meal. Also great is the view - you park yourself on a picnic bench and view into the water of Everglades City and wait for your number to be called. Don't worry if you don't get called in sequential order, you'll get your food. Others at the table got a fish sandwich, which was huge, fried shrimp, fried clams and more.

    (4)
  • Jeff K.

Kinda dirty place. The shrimp I had hardly had any breading on it and the fries were a bit soggy. I'd pick another place as this was just so so.

    (3)
  • Jason G.

This place is worth trying. We stopped after an airboat tour. The bartender at the bar wasn't welcoming or engaging- the customers were the most helpful thing about that part. It's worth trying for gator, but I highly recommend the frog. Overall, it's not bad but I won't be back after my next airboat tour. Good for something to bite the hunger.

Best fish in Florida. Fresh! Tasty - we ordered it blackened. The fish they had was Grouper. It didn't smell like fish and it was not fishy tasting - totally fresh. It was 10 times better and more delicious than the fancy restaurants downtown Naples, I won't name them here. Hope we get to drive the 1 hour route from Naples one more time before we go back home, for one more totally fresh and yummy fish plate. Ah, the shrimp plate was fresh and tasty - worth every penny (my husband says, since he got it and I don't eat shrimp usually).

Lunch: Two item basket with blackened shrimp and grilled scallops, vienna-sausage-shaped hush puppies, and steamed stone crab served with world famous super secret honey mustard sauce (honey mustard). Everything was cooked perfectly and amazingly fresh. I thought the basket was a little small for the price (as compared to the one item basket) and the seasoning on the scallops was a little too strong. Definitely worth a detour and I would happily go back if it weren't in the middle of no where. Staff was really friendly and personable. Seems like a really cool place to hang out on a beautiful day when it is busy (it was cold and not very busy). We sat inside upstairs with a nice view of the channel and enjoyed some good food in a casual atmosphere.

  • Kirsten B.

Amazing crab cake sandwich. Great view of the water. Tried my father in law's fish sandwich and it was delicious. Just know if you order the alligator basket, it comes buffalo style. Loved this place!!

    (5)
  • Derek G.

Best food you will find around the Everglades. You can get fried chicken, fried fish, hush puppies, anything healthy.. You name it. We have been here several times and never been impressed but always been satisfied. For a place that goes through hundreds of cans and bottles ...THERE ARE NO RECYCLING BINS. I asked the staff and they said they don't recycle anymore. I am no hippie but that is not right.

    (3)
  • Linda T.

The menu did not specify type of fish on the fish platter, so I asked. I was told that it was grouper. I was served Basa, not grouper! Although it tasted good, I resent paying grouper prices for a cheap Indonesian import. Would have given this a one star rating if Hubby had not been so happy with his frog legs. They were small but had a great flavor. Nice view from outdoor picnic tables.

If you are anywhere within 100 miles of Everglades City, FL, you must make it a day to include a basket of shrimp at City Seafood! I have been there numerous times over the years, ordered a shrimp basket, 1st time my brother said to the young woman "Please don't overcook my shrimp" she looked at him very disdainfully and replied "Never over 45 seconds! Are you foolin' with me?" Year after year we spend time visiting friends here and there in southern FL and do not fail to make several long trips down through "panther crossing" country to City Seafood. The place is much busier than years ago. Go early for lunch or simply wait your turn. It's always worth it! You serve consistently excellent food properly cooked and people hear about it. NO BETTER SHRIMP ANYWHERE! Fries are really great as well (usually my measure of a fried food cook).

  • Darren J.

Booked Everglades your and got their early to hit City Seafood. Did not disappoint. Had pound of large stone crab good as Joes in Miami and cheaper. Fried clams and alligator were good as well. Not fancy so if you are looking for a romantic dining experience this is not it. Laid back shack on the water. Good for kids and right next door check out Speedy's for your air boat tour. Real good seafood and fresh. Will go back for sure to try other treats. Honey mustard sauce great on everything. Hush puppies also good.

  • Jeff H.

Tried to eat here. The girls behind the counter were so rude that we never even sat down.its a gross under the dock like setting that I'm glad we did not patronize. Go to triad seafood down the way or rod and gun.

  • Joshua C.

Probably the best prices on stone crab in the entire area. If you enjoy dinner and a show, ask for Ashley. She'll take care of you.

On the waterfront is this take-out place with a huge variety of seafood. I got the basket with fried gator and fried frog's legs, which was delicious! They serve beer too. a

  • Collin D.

Great waterfront seating. Old rustic restaurant. Top 10 rudest waitstaff I have encountered. No greeting and just pointed and grunted at the menu on the wall when I asked for a menu. $42 dollars for 3 lunches. 1 basket and 2 sandwiches, really!?! Grouper sandwich is lightly breaded and fried. The sandwich is mostly bread, pretty thin fillet in the sandwich. Not any better then bar food. I think I had a McDonald's filet o fish that was quite similar. Soft shell crab basket is nothing to write home about either. 2 small fried crabs on a bed of french fries. Really, the only thing this place has going for it is the waterfront view. Food: poor Ambiance: great Service: poor Value: poor!

    (2)
  • Joe B.

Fantastic fish sandwich and fries. The bun was fresh with crisp lettuce and tarter sauce. I had large stone claws, which was also great. You must stop here before or after air boat rides.

We have traveled now for three years on our boat and have had many meals out. Some good, some not so good. This I must say was the WORST meal we have ever been served. They even closed the place while we and another couple were eating. I mean they locked up and left! Don't bother with this place!

    (1)
  • Angela H.

Good gator baskets. Nicely buffalo breaded. Scallop basket was just so-so with a plain beer batter. Very good sized portions for everything though. Simple picnic tables on a dock, and you can watch the air boats.

    (4)
  • Jerri B.

Order food & pay upfront, pick-up food from window. However, wait for food was an hour at 2 p.m. Saturday. Shrimp were rubbery and bland. Gator was good and spicy, thus the 1 star. Otherwise, would have given it less than 1 star if that was an option. Tourist trap...they take your money then you feel trapped to wait the hour to receive your less than desirable food.

    (1)
  • B. Nicole G.

On a day that was utterly ruined by anyone's standards, City Seafood saved the day... or at least our appetites. We had a large order of the stone crab with a crab cake app and a sampler basket of gator, scallops, and grouper (I think). Being a southern gal, born and bred, all this took me back to summers on the outerbanks with my grandparents and the Man really enjoyed trying some new and "exotic" faire. The location is great, right on the water where gar swim up to eat your scraps, and gulls try to pick off your meal. A little gift shop sits off the side and an ice cream stand is on the property as well with several varieties of homemade ice cream. We'll probably never be back in this area again, but if we ever find ourselves back in Everglades City, we will be sure to eat at City Seafood again.

    (5)
  • Jules W.

Seafood tasty and staff nice. I went back for hot dogs and beers next day. Good venue to laugh at those dumb noisy air boats loaded up with poor tourists.

    (4)
  • Justin C.

Awful! We waited almost an hour for TWO appetizers. Multiple customers' orders were filled after ours. Did they forget about ours? No apologies at all. The food was not that good at all either. Simply put: don't go there!!

  • Michael A.

This place knows what it's doing. First off, the food is incredible. We started with the stone crab claws, served with butter and their own homemade honey mustard. They were cooked to perfection. The butter left a bit to be desired but the homemade honey mustard was a surprisingly good match. Its easily the best honey mustard I've ever had, and we even purchased a big container of it to take home. We moved on to the fried baskets - we had gator, oysters, blue soft shell crabs, and frog legs. Everything was out of this world - the gator was the best, but the rest came in a very close second. The breading on the fried foods was very light - almost non-existent, a huge plus. All the baskets come with lime, and the gator comes with an amazing homemade spicy ranch dip. We also had grilled shrimp, which was excellent, and both the regular and sweet potato fries were amazing. We capped off our meal with key lime pie and coffee, which as I'm sure you can guess, was amazing. Not only is the food great but so is the service. Everyone I dealt with was amazingly friendly and helpful. When we ordered our coffee, the very nice lady behind the counter examined the half-empty pot, declared that it was too old, and brewed us a fresh pot. BTW this place is also a seafood market and sells everything available on their menu raw. We met the owner on the way out, and he gladly offered to special order us anything he didn't stock as long as we call in advance. Finally, the place is on a dock which offers pretty good views, though it was a little chilly on the day we visited so we ate in the dining room instead. Seriously, this place is amazing, and is more than enough reason for me to make the 1-hour drive just for its food.

Located at the heart of back country, Everglades City, Fl. Staffed with the friendliest workers, this place offers you every amazing food you can't find everywhere else. I got the 3 item basket, which you get to choose whatever fish/seafood you want from an extensive list. I got me the frog legs, scallops and gator meat and every single piece was amazing. Great overall experience.... I would totally recommend if you're in the area.

    (5)

Amazingly Delicious, great outdoor waterfront casual atmosphere, and friendly. This is the best place I've eaten in all of sw Florida in two weeks.

Great stone crabs claws. A must have. My husband had the grouper basket and said it was fresh and delectable.

There was 11 of us and it was a perfect trip. A boat ride through the Everglades and some fresh alligator. Great trip. I would recommend it.

  • Trevor G.

Great location and good food. Its the type of place where you place you order and wait for it to be called. We all had something different. The grouper and gator were great. Large portions. I'm docking them one star for the price they were charging for stone crab claws. They were charging about $16 lb and last time I bought them here on the West Coast Pier (Los Angeles) they were $8 lb. Don't think you will be disappointed with the fried seafood they serve.

Enjoyed the fried seafood baskets and nice view of the marina. If you like seafood, you'll like this place.

My wife and I visited last week and found it to be just as expected.. It was terrific. we ate a late lunch there, Shrimp and gator Baskets. We met Candace and her 7 year old son who's gonna grow up to be a great fisherman, he showed us a bucket of crabs he'd just caught, he was an impressive child, well mannered and extremely talented. I was totally impressed with the people and the place. The food was fantastic and the people were wonderful. It was everything anyone could ask for. The old Florida style dining goes to the bone in the dockside dining area with rustic tables and boats passing by we enjoyed it there and plan to return as soon as possible. this place is as Old Florida as it gets. Give them a shot you wont regret it. the bottom line is the foods good and the folks are nice the parking is debatable but survivable it would be harmful to their image to pave the parking lot, I hope they never do. Don't change a thing!!!!

  • Cyn H.

Stone crab was so good. Sitting over looking the water made for. Perfect meal. Don't miss the key lime pie

    (5)
  • Jorge G.

Great view but food is nothing to write home about. Wont be back. Get better seafood here in Miami. The tourists there got on my nerves as well. Prefer the Seafood Depot down the road

    (2)
  • Jun S.

Best stone crab! It is probably better than Joe's stone crab in Miami Beach, and for sure inexpensive. But don't expect a fancy restaurant; this is a casual place to eat fresh seafood with nice ocean view of Everglades City. Please check photos I just uploaded. It is worth driving from Miami area in weekends.

  • Norb W.

Highly recommended by friends and we were not disappointed. The fish chowder was very tasty and my wife liked her shrimp basket which had plump shrimp and sweet potato fries. We are planning to go back with our kids when they visit us. They will love the authentic setting among crab traps and fishing boats.

    (5)
  • Tessie B.

Super laid back place in the middle of Everglades City. You wait in line to order your food and then you pick it up at the window once your number is called. Best Stone Crabs! The Key Lime Pie was a bit too tart for my taste, but The Fiance LOVED it. Great atmosphere for a lazy Sunday afternoon.

    (5)
  • Paul S.

The food was good. However the service was surly and unfriendly. Apparently we dropped a small container of dressing after they loaded us down with water bottles and food at the cash register, which is where you both place your order and carry away drinks, salads, salad dressing and other items. They were very unpleasant about it when we went back looking for the dressing. I later went back to order a piece of Key Lime pie, which they advertise as a specialty of the house. After again waiting through the very slow order / pickup / payment line, I was told they didn't have any more. It was 1 pm on a Wednesday afternoon. Had the food not been ok, I would have given them a one.

This is an awesome little old time place (eat in or take out) in a town that reminds of of old time South Florida and definitely deserves a visit -- you city dwellers you! Stone crabs are now as cheap as ever in my long lifetime (check out nearby Chokoloskee for that too) and all the rest of the seafood is excellent fresh. Nothing fancy here, just great seafood and cold beer. There is no indoor dining, it's park benches outside overlooking a canal, quite charming and "real." Everglades City is great and I don't go there often enough and neither do you ...

  • Jim F.

I really wanted to love this place. The location on the water is wonderful. The staff is friendly, and the place is very clean. All in all, a great Florida experience for your trip to the everglades. The food was just OK. If I went back to Everglades City, I would eat here again, but with lower expectations. The best item we had was the fried soft shell crab.

    (3)
  • Bert R.

Food was not fresh. Rude service. Go somewhere else.

Much better alligator wrap than I've had previously. Ha ha. Just kidding, by far the best gator I've ever had!

    (5)
  • Justin R.

Totally broke the diet to eat an awesome poboy, and some of the best conch fritters I have had in a minute. If you are looking for the healthy solution this is not it, but if you are looking for some country fried awesomeness, then do it to it! Sits right on the water and has a great view.

  • Chad C.

I came here based on the recommendation of a local. The fresh stone crab claws were excellent! The grouper was not overly breaded, allowing one to taste the fish. The frog legs were a little bland, but better than the first time I had it elsewhere. We took the order to go, but you can order a beer while you wait. There are several picnic tables that overlook the Barron river. The big wooden shack with all kinds of signage gives it a good backcountry feel. I would go there again should I ever return to the area.

    (4)
  • K Z.

FRESH FRESH FRESH!!! The Grouper, Crab claws and shrimp are our favorite! Stop for a bite to eat, you won't be disappointed.

  • jim b.

Good views, very nice staff, great feel. Food was pretty good, but not great. Good size portions. Batter on the fried fish/shellfish a bit commercial tasting and thick, but it was alright. Definitely not a bargain place, but we were there in tourist season and decent seafood isn't cheap anymore. I don't think I'd rush back, but wouldn't avoid either.

    (4)
  • Michael M.

Great stone crab, grouper and fabulous home-made key lime pie at very reasonable prices. Now open for breakfast and dinner, but so far without the crowds that arrive for lunch. They are still getting service aspects of their breakfast and dinner act together, but they are trying hard and the food is great.

    (5)
  • Andy F.

This place is what you want to find in everglades city! A shack on the water that serves anything that set foot or fin in the water. They have a huge selection of fresh seafood, or you can order cooked meals. I just had the fried froglegs and they were seasoned excellently. I also tried some "homemade" ice cream. And, although I can't say for sure if it was really homemade, it was a refreshing way to beat the heat. The prices are much better than the Oyster House up the road, so definitely worth stopping in here.
